The Permanence Charter

A place to keep someone is only worth as much as its promise to last. Here is the estate’s, in plain words, and what we will never do.

The memory palace outlives everything

A memory palace stays online for as long as Here After All stands, and that is what we are building it to do. If a family ever stops keeping their plot in the world, the page itself remains: online, read-only, free, holding the name, the story, and everything placed there. Keeping pays for the plot in the realm and the room to add to it. It never buys the right to be remembered; that is not ours to sell.

Everything you keep is yours to take

What you place here stays yours. At any time you can export the memory palace, its remembrances, and your photographs, recordings and writings, in a form you can read and hold on your own machine. Very large archives are sent to you on request, so that no size limit ever stands between you and your own files. You never have to ask permission to leave, and you never leave empty handed.

The archive comes to you, every year

Once a year, without being asked, we send every keeping family the whole of what they keep: every photograph, letter, recording and written word, in one file that opens on any device and needs nothing from us to work. Whatever happens to this company, to your accounts, or to the internet between us, your family holds everything, at home.

No advertising, ever, on a memory palace

No memory palace will ever carry an advertisement, a sponsor, or a thing for sale. The people who visit come to stand with someone. That is the only reason the page exists.

No machine will ever speak as your person

We preserve what was real: their words, their voice, their face, in recordings and writing they and their family gave. We will never make a machine imitate them, answer as them, or say a thing they never said. Preservation is our whole craft. Resurrection is not, and never will be.

If we ever have to close, your data goes out first

We intend to last. If that ever became impossible, the first thing we would do, before anything else, is get every family their full export and give real notice. No memory palace would be deleted out from under anyone, and no one would wake to find their person gone.

If any of this ever falls short, tell us, and a person will answer. support@hereafterall.com
